The DESIGN
With its exclusive, unmistakably Italian styling, the 850 MANA embodies the perfect combination of elegance and practicality. As with all Aprilia nakeds, the Mana's high-tech components make an essential contribution to overall design.
The 16 litre tank is located under the seat, lower than normal, to distribute weight more evenly and lower the bike's centre of gravity. The "traditional" tank location is occupied instead by an illuminated storage compartment that is lined with non-slip, non-scratch material and big enough to house a full face helmet. The compartment also incorporates mobile phone storage and a 12V power socket.
The MANA is the first motorcycle ever to provide fully integrated helmet storage, a unique and immensely practical advantage, especially for urban commuting and short trips. The compartment is opened electrically by a convenient switch on the handlebars. The lid opens under the control of a hydropneumatic damper that prevents accidental opening while the bike is in motion. A manually operated lever under the passenger seat is provided to release the compartment lid in the event of a flat battery.

The ENGINE
There can be no doubt that the Mana engine has opened new horizons in the world of motorcycling, featuring as it does a twin cylinder layout, electronic fuel injection, bags of torque, and above all a revolutionary transmission system that completely replaces the conventional mechanical gearbox and delivers a whole new motorcycling experience even under sport riding conditions.
To develop this amazing new engine, Aprilia has relied on the expertise of the world's top designers and all the skill of its own R&D department.

MANA: the future of the gearbox
The most interesting aspect of the Mana engine is without a doubt its primary drive system, based on an electronically controlled, sequential transmission that offers the rider a choice of control modes.

Riders two options:
- Sequential mode: The rider decides for himself when to change gear, either using the conventional pedal or a switch on the handlebars. A servo mechanism shifts the main pulley to change between the seven gear ratios amazingly quickly. During deceleration, if the rider omit to change gear manually, the control system intervenes to change down automatically, preventing engine speed from dropping below the set threshold and providing another valuable aid to active safety.

- Fully automatic mode (Autodrive): Sophisticated electronics assume control over everything, and the CVT transmission keeps the engine running at maximum torque speed for optimum pickup and acceleration. The Sportgear transmission offers a choice of three mappings:
Touring: for minimum consumption and maximum usability.
Sport: for top performance with blistering acceleration
Rain: for use on wet or slippery roads

- Semi-Autodrive mode allows the rider only to change down independently. This is particularly useful for overtaking at maximum torque revs or for boosting engine braking when riding down a hill.
You can switch from Autodrive to Sequential mode and back at any time, irrespective of riding conditions. The handlebar gearshift control can also be disabled from the dashboard.

The 90° V engine, chosen for torque and power delivery, is the perfect match for this type of transmission. Delivering 76 horsepower at the crank and well in excess of 7 kgm of torque (at 5,000 rpm), the engine produces an extremely flat power curve that translates into plenty of ready power even at low revs.

The FRAME
The robust steel tube trellis frame sets new standards for this class of machine and ensures top level handling in line with the characteristics of the innovative engine. The single piece aluminium swingarm is damped by a monoshock that is laterally offset to free up space for the exhaust pipe behind the engine and make the motorcycle more compact. The MANA has a wheelbase of only 1,463 mm, extremely short for a naked, even a sports model.

The SUSPENSION
The 43 mm upside down fork slides easily and features an optimised setup for excellent performance even under sport riding conditions. 120 mm of front wheel travel lets you tackle all sorts of road surface.

The BRAKES
Impressive stopping power is delivered by the very best braking technology currently available, developed in-house by Aprilia. Radial calipers with 4 pistons are the state of the art for motorcycle brakes and ensure maximum active safety under all braking conditions. The generous front discs are 320 mm in diameter, the standard size for Aprilia's big bikes, and are complemented by a single 260 mm rear disc.
A sophisticated two channel ABS system maximises the Mana ABS's already impressive levels of active and passive safety by preventing wheel lock on slippery surfaces and improving braking performance.

Aprilia Tuono 1000 R


In the fact is that the Tuono is simply unique. Not just another naked, the Tuono is a 1000 cc superbike. Only the fairing has been removed, and the handlebars raised. Maximum control is also guaranteed by a host of high-tech 'racing' components. The Tuono has exceeded all expectations. It has proved unbeatable as a road bike, and the Factory version has been invincible on the racetrack, literally dominating the Italian naked racing scene. Not satisfied with success at home, the Tuono has also carried the Aprilia flag on the international racing scene, achieving prestige in epic races like the Isle of Mann Tourist Trophy, Macao and Daytona, to name just a few events in which the Aprilia Tuono has fearlessly taken on production bikes and competition superbikes too. The Tuono is a street fighter with racing in the blood.

The engine makEShis bike equally at home on the road and the racetrack. The Aprilia Tuono remains faithful to the concept of total ridability that has always characterised Aprilia's high performance motorcycles.

The improvements made by Aprilia's engineers mean that the Tuono 1000 continues to set the pace for high performance nakeds.

STYLING
The Tuono 1000, design is at the service of performance and comfort. Every little detail has been developed not only to attract admiration for its refined style, but to be totally functional too.
The new, aggressive nose fairing, with closely mounted twin headlights, has been developed in wind tunnel testing to provide effective protection for the rider and to kill lift at high speeds, ensuring maximum precision and control.

The two lateral spoilers, for example, not only look great but also serve an important aerodynamic purpose. They help keep the bike stable at high speed and keep the wind off the rider's legs. It is partly thanks to these spoilers that the Tuono 1000 provides better aerodynamic protection than any other naked.
The Tuono 1000 is the only naked with a dynamic air intake located directly under the nose fairing, and a duct to channel ram air through the frame to the airbox. Yet more proof of the Tuono 1000's uncompromising racing soul!
On the Tuono, ergonomics is one of the bike's strong points. The seating position has been carefully designed to give the rider maximum control over the front end. The handlebar risers are lower and the footrests have been moved further back, so that the riding position is sportier and more effective. Despite this, overall comfort has even improved, so that riding is less tiring.

THE V60 MAGNESIUM EVOLUTION ENGINE
The latest 1000 cc V 60 Magnesium Evolution engine is derived from that of the RSV 1000 R Factory, with only a few minor changes to improve torque and muscle at low revs. The engine has been thoroughly redesigned to maintain its reputation as the best twin cylinder engine in production. So performance is more amazing than ever, with 100% usable power and, of course, that proverbial Aprilia reliability.
Engine breathing has been improved by bigger exhaust valves (enlarged from 31 to 33 mm in diameter) and new, larger diameter exhaust collector pipes. Thanks to these improvements, the V60 Magnesium Evolution that drives the Tuono 1000 puts out more power than ever, 139 HP at 9,500 rpm, while also boosting torque to an impressive 10.9 Kgm at 8,500 rpm, a figure that tells you all you need to know about the muscle that Aprilia's V twin can deliver even at low revs.

The silencers have catalytic converters installed nearer to the collector pipes. This solution has reduced converter activation time by 50% while further reducing the level of exhaust emissions.
Optimised fluid dynamics inside the cylinder heads are enhanced by improved mapping of the combined ignition and fuel injection systems to achieve higher power throughout the useful rev range.

The main characteristics of the new V 60 Magnesium Evolution engine:
" Optimised cylinder heads with bigger valves and one spark plug per cylinder;
" 57 mm throttle bodies with one injector per cylinder;
" high strength conrods;
" minimum weight thanks to the extensive use of magnesium;
" close-ratio gearbox;
" dry sump lubrication with a double trochoid pump, separate oil tank and oil cooler;
" mixed gear and chain valve timing. The drive gears (one for each timing chain) are located inside the crankcase to keep the cylinder heads as compact as possible;
" AVDC (Anti Vibration Double Countershaft);
" Aprilia's patented PPC (Pneumatic Power Clutch) hydraulically operated, power assisted clutch system for controlling rear wheel bounce under deceleration

The Tuono 1000 inherits the RSV's dynamic air intake, locating it just under the headlight cluster, in the centre of the bike where ram air pressure is highest. The Air Runner duct (which also supports the nose fairing and instruments) channels the air to a 10.3 litre airbox, designed to allow the engine to develop its full potential. The Air Runner duct ensures that pressure in the airbox increases with speed, and generates a 3% increase in engine power at maximum speed.

An engine control unit developed in conjunction with Siemens VDO provides integrated engine management. The ECU receives all essential engine parameters in real time from 15 different sensors, processes the data and, again in real time, controls the various actuators that keep the engine functioning perfectly at all times.
The unit's flash EPROM comes with the mapping for unrestricted racing exhausts ready loaded. Aprilia's Technical Assistance Service can therefore enable race mapping in next to no time on request.

The FRAME
Every aspect of the frame, fork and suspensions has been fine tuned for perfect weight distribution. The frame is a combination of aluminium-silicon alloy castings and Peraluman 450 pressed parts. This highly sophisticated structure is not only more rigid than the previous version but lighter too. The latest frame weighs under 10 kg (9650 grams) setting an impressive new record for its class. The wheelbase is shorter too, and at 1410 mm - another record for the category - accounts for the Tuono 1000's crisper than even handling and more instinctive ride.
The new double banana swingarm provides a clear passage for the exhaust system and weighs only 4860 grams, well under the 5 kg figure considered by experts to be the reference weight for this component.

The SUSPENSION
The fork is a Showa upside down unit, with 43 mm stanchions for a perfect balance between precision on the racetrack and comfort on the road. And to ensure that the ideal setup can be achieved for all styles and conditions, on the road and on the track alike, the fork is fully adjustable in spring preload and in compression and rebound damping.
The Sachs monoshock at the rear is likewise adjustable in spring preload and rebound damping.
With the arrival of the Factory version, the meanest, most aggressive naked on the road really reveals its true racing nature. The Tuono 1000 R Factory offers a level of performance that no other twin can match. And an amazingly sophisticated chassis means that it need not fear competition even from genuine superbikes.

On the Tuono 1000 R Factory, the suspension is designed to respond instantly to input from the most expert riders. No compromises have been made to ensure ultimate handling on the racetrack. The Tuono Factory is equipped with state-of-the-art suspension. The 43 mm Öhlins upside down fork gives you unrivalled precision and sliding action. And of course, the fork is fully adjustable in spring preload, and in hydraulic compression and rebound damping. Every rider can therefore find exactly the right setup for his own level of skill and experience.
The fully adjustable Öhlins monoshock at the rear also offers perfect action and precision, and plays an essential part in ensuring the unique handling of the Tuono 1000 Factory on road and track alike.

The BRAKING SYSTEM
The braking system has undergone a number of major changes. The Tuono 1000 is equipped with Brembo Gold radial calipers
featuring two separate sintered pads.
The two 320 mm floating steel discs feature a narrower braking band to minimise inertia and weight and are fixed in place by Aprilia's exclusive six spoke flange.
The rear braking system is Brembo Gold too, with a 220 mm stainless steel disc and a caliper with two 32 mm pistons.
The front and rear brakes both use aeronautical metal braided hoses to eliminate the sponginess inevitably associated with conventional brake hoses and to ensure maximum braking precision.

The COMPONENTS
The following components deserve special mention.
- The dashboard is a mixed (digital-analog) unit. It uses the data received over the CAN line to perform an essential autodiagnostic function for which it incorporates a dedicated memory. The new dashboard control unit performs the same functions as the previous unit (including the 40 lap timer) but is more compact and modern in design and extremely lightweight. User friendliness has improved too, with all functions controlled from two practical push-buttons on the left hand light switch.

The LED backlighting can also be adjusted to three levels of intensity.
" The headlight cluster is derived from that of the RSV, and incorporates four light units for perfect night-time visibility.
" The new tail light cluster features the innovative design and LED lighting of the RSV.
" The ignition key is internally coded, and the ignition block is fitted with an engine immobiliser as standard.

The Tuono 1000 R Factory is the ultimate expression of the almost maniacal attention to detail and component quality that distinguishes all Aprilia sports motorcycles. Carbon fibre and lightweight aluminium magnesium alloys abound. These advanced materials contribute to the creation of a motorcycle that combines power and lightness in a way that is unique on the naked bike market.
Reduction of unsuspended mass has contributed to a level of handling and control beyond the reach of the competition. The Tuono 1000 R Factory is equipped with ultra-light forged aluminium wheels, made to Aprilia's own specifications. The major saving in weight that these wheels provide minimises inertia and makes the bike even more responsive and precise in setting up trajectories through bends.
Lighter wheels also offer less resistance to acceleration and braking forces, improving handling and performance even further.
The belly pan, side panels and mudguards are all made from this prestigious material and, in conjunction with the forged wheels contribute to reducing weight to truly record levels (181 kg dry weight*).

BMW Lo Rider Concept


The Purist, powerful, unfaired and reduced to the absolute essentials – these few words provide an incomplete description of the BMW Lo Rider, the new concept study by BMW Motorrad. At fi rst sight, the focus would seem to be on the creation of a roadster with a muscular appearance, openly displayed technology and powerful fl at twin engine for pure emotion and maximum motorcycling fun. But behind all this is in fact a completely new custom concept.

The bike’s low weight, the powerful and high-torque fl at twin engine and high-quality chassis technology give it a high level of sporty riding dynamics, while the lowered chassis and the relaxed yet active seating position with the broad handlebars are more of a loan from cruisers and naked bikes.
The concept is such that, for the fi rst time, the customer can be involved in the design of the BMW Lo Rider to an extent which goes beyond what has previously been possible to date. Numerous options including different exhaust systems, seats, headlamp units and paint fi nish variations allow for a level of customisation which is far greater than the familiar individualisation by means of special equipment features and accessories. This means that the entire character of the vehicle can be adapted to the customer’s individual taste: the customer can take full pleasure in assembling a machine just as he wants it – from a cool cruiser to an aggressive muscle bike.

The BMW Motorrad has a tradition of coming up with new ways and ideas when it comes to motorcycling. Fascinating studies and designs have been produced in the past using ideas which then found their way into serial production.
But studies by BMW Motorrad are about more than just trying to develop a motorcycle which has not existed in a given form before. In addition to functions and quality, BMW developers focus on the emotional component – the connection between man and motorcycle. The guiding principle is that a motorcycle should not just function perfectly but should also appeal to all the riders’ senses simultaneously, arouse an emotional response in him and fi ll him with enthusiasm at every moment – when stationary and when moving, as a whole and in its detail. In short: it has to light the fire.

The Emotion through interaction – individualisation made-to-measure.
With the BMW Lo Rider study presented at the EICMA in Milan, BMW Motorrad is not just demonstrating a continuation of this policy but is in fact taking a signifi cant step forward in focusing on the interaction between man and motorcycle. The idea is that for the fi rst time, the customer should be interactively involved in the design of his BMW – going far beyond the familiar adding of special equipment features and accessories. The customer is to be given the opportunity to be much more deeply involved in the design of the Lo Rider from the outset, creating a customised, made-to-measure machine based around the principal components such as engine and chassis.

The Classic meets modern – a combination of stylistic elements from different eras.
The study Lo Rider does not fi t into any of the classic motorcycle segments – and it is not supposed to. It combines the latest technical attributes of high performance sports motorcycles with the traditional, classic principles of motorcycle construction. State-of-the-art chassis components from sports motorcycle construction such as the powerful upside-down fork, 6-piston
brake calipers with real bite and wide 17-inch tyres are combined with styledefi ning elements of motorcycle construction from the
fifties and sixties.

The concepts, also based on styles of the fi fties and sixties, as well as differing paint fi nish versions, the BMW Lo Rider offers the motorcycle fan a wealth of possibilities by means of which to interpret the roadster theme in a highly individual way according to his own personal taste founded on a single basic motorcycle. In fact the Lo Rider gives the creativity of its rider almost completely free rein.

The Chassis and engine – state-of-the-art technology based on classic principles.
The mixture of classic and modern stylistic elements of motorcycle construction combined with state-of-the-art technology is what gives the Lo Rider its defi ning look from all angles. A torsionally stiff space frame of sophisticated architecture openly displays the bike’s technology and together with the upside-down telescopic fork at the front and Paralever rear-wheel swing arm provides the modern basis in terms of chassis technology - just as it is to be found in some current models of the BMW Boxer series. What
is more, the chassis of the Lo Rider has been lowered as compared to conventional roadsters.

In terms of tyre dimensions, the 17-inch wheels represent the current state of the art for sports motorcycles, though with their chrome wire spokes, black hubs and steel rims they ingeniously echo the characteristic stylistic elements and fl air of a past era.
By contrast, contemporary technology and a high level of riding dynamics is provided by elements such as the high performance dual brake disk with powerful 6-piston calipers, together with wave brake discs borrowed from motor racing at the front and the single disc brake at the rear.
In terms of its engine, the Lo Rider also relies on technology which is both contemporary and full of character – the legendary, highly responsive BMW flat twin “Boxer” engine. For 85 years, the construction principle of this engine has stood for unmistakable, authentic design, a full torque curve and unique sound and power. In its current version with an output of over 100 bhp,
overhead camshafts, electronic fuel injection and exhaust gas purifi cation, the powerful response of this dynamic and distinctive
2-cylinder is simply perfect for the BMW Lo Rider.

The customer as designer – individual designs and paint fi nishes.
The concept study Lo Rider is mainly focused on the two essential component groups of a motorcycle, the engine and the chassis. Any superfl uous decoration is omitted. Instead, variable components such as the exhaust system, seat, headlamp unit and paint fi nishes determine the bike’s outward appearance, at the same time defi ning its conceptual style.

The combination of these classic and modern components is entirely subject to the personal taste of the customer. For example, he can initially express the dominating character of the BMW Lo Rider through the placement of the exhaust system, creating either a sporty style or opting for a more roadsterlike look by having it lowered.

A very sporty effect is created by the classic perch seat made of aluminium sheet metal, while the simple single seat reduced to the absolute minimum will appeal to purist motorcycle fans. The single seat can also be optionally extended to include a pillion passenger module.

The specifi cation laid down for the development team led by David Robb, Head of Design Development at BMW Motorrad, was that all the conceivable combination options of these components should produce different end results but that the bike should always retain a rounded, coherent character in itself. Whether with a raised or lowered exhaust system, with sporty perch seat or seat bench for one or two people: the Lo Rider comes over differently every time but always makes an impression.

The same applies to the selection options in creating the front section of the Lo Rider. With their aggressive, modern design, the vertically arranged dualheadlamps give it a touch of the streetfi ghter, while the classic, semicircular headlamp provides an echo of past times.
Further possibilities for individual design are available to the customer in the choice of paint fi nish. There are four different colours available for the fuel tank, and with the three different paint fi nishes for the engine casing this allows the customer to create a very distinctive, personal look, defi ning the character of the Lo Rider as anything from refi ned to sporty.
These always harmonise perfectly with the deliberately classic, high-quality aluminium parts such as fuel tank trim, seat holder and wing struts. Different styles can also be created with the front and rear wings which are available either in black or chrome finish.

The Piaggio, the company that revolutionized personal transport with the launch of the first Vespa model in 1946, continues its streak of innovation with the introduction of the three-wheel scooter, the PIAGGIO MP3. The PIAGGIO MP3 provides safety, road grip and stability levels that no two-wheeler can match. Its power, performance and ease of use make for a very entertaining ride.

The two independent, tilting front wheels of the PIAGGIO MP3 re-define the very concept of ride stability to provide an unprecedented riding experience. Take on wet or patchy asphalt, cobblestone streets, train tracks and other tough riding conditions with more confidence and ease than a traditional two-wheeler.

With its compact super-scooter size and exceptional manoeuvrability, the PIAGGIO MP3 is at home in town traffic. It’s a cinch to park: an electro-hydraulic suspension locking system means there is no need to put the vehicle on its stand. The PIAGGIO MP3 is equally comfortable when heading out of town. Its road grip, cornering safety and tilt angle are unprecedented for a scooter, adding to the pleasure of riding different road surfaces at high speed.

Mechanical Components
Innovative technical features and top-grade components make the PIAGGIO MP3 a truly unique vehicle that re-invents the entire scooter concept.
The PIAGGIO MP3 frame in high-tensile steel tubes is the result of the best CAD (Computer Aided Design) technology and computerized FEM (Finite Element Method) analysis. Elements such as frame strength and weight were precisely defined and tested from the initial phases of the project, with the suitability of each solution checked at every stage.
The innovative parallelogram suspension, an original Piaggio design, is anchored to the frame. The tilt mechanism is composed of four cast-aluminium control arms with four hinges fixed to the central tube and two guide tubes on either side of the parallelogram and is connected to the arms via suspension pins and ball bearings. The tubes on the right and left enclose the steering tube in a classic single arm setup.

The PIAGGIO MP3 uses three 12” wheels with large tires — 120/70 front, 130/70 rear. Together with the revolutionary front suspension, the wheels provide a tilt angle of up to 40° while riding like any normal two wheeler and simultaneously ensuring better road grip on any surface, especially slippery and uneven tracks. The parallelogram suspension also ensures increased stability at high speeds
The rear of the MP3 features a singlearm suspension with two dual effect hydraulic shock absorbers, a helicoidal spring and four-position preload.
Besides its exceptional stability, the PIAGGIO MP3 also provides brilliant braking thanks to three powerful linked brakes, 240 mm in diameter, and the parallelogram suspension. The result is record deceleration (about 8 m per second) with braking space reduced by over 20 per cent on normal road surfaces and as much as 24 per cent on slippery roads compared to a traditional two-wheel scooter.

The Design
CAD-designed down to the last detail, the PIAGGIO MP3 body offered excellent protection starting from the wind tunnel, where it was extensively tested. The front-end design is genuinely innovative in terms of technical features and concept, with car-style bodywork treatment. The headlamps and front fairing merge to form a single unit that enhances the vehicle’s dynamic look as well as providing extra rider protection.
Shock-resistant splashguards on either side of the front shield protect the rider and the vehicle. The rear loading section has been designed to offer maximum comfort and storage capacity: a boot lid painted the same color as the bodywork provides access to the under seat storage. A substantial 65-litre (approx 15 gallons) storage capacity and dual access to the storage area, from the boot lid as well as by flipping up the seat, make the PIAGGIO MP3 extremely practical. The storage area comfortably holds two full-face helmets, a small bag and objects up to about three feet in length. The under seat storage also has a courtesy light and a seat cover for use when parking in rainy weather. A handy remote control button on the ignition key opens the seat lock and the rear boot lid. The rider can also open the fuel cap and rear boot lid with a single twist of the key in the ignition unit.
The most advanced calculation programs and three-dimensional measurements were carried out from the initial phase of the PIAGGIO MP3 project to enhance the vehicle’s ergonomics. The result is a vehicle that offers top-of-the-line comfort, safety and ease of use. The front shield provides exceptional protection. An extremely comfortable seat adapted to riders of any size has been made to measure for the PIAGGIO MP3. Generous padding and the shape of the built-in backrest provides perfect ergonomical seating, while the saddle height of a mere 30.7” from the ground makes the vehicle easy to manoeuvre in any circumstances. The optimal height difference between the front and the rear parts of the saddle, in addition to the ideally located rear handgrips, ensure passenger comfort and protection.

Once the rider has pressed the handlebar switch, the control unit only activates the electro-actuator if the vehicle is travelling at a speed in the range of 5–15 mph. The exact speed at which this takes place depends on the level of deceleration: the greater the deceleration, the higher the speed at which the tilt mechanism locks. Additionally, the mechanism will not lock unless the butterfly valve is closed and the engine is running at below 3000 rpm.

The PIAGGIO MP3 dashboard provides comprehensive, at-a-glance trip information. It includes a speedometer, fuel gauge, coolant temperature indicator, clock, trip and mileage odometer. Other features are a fuel reserve indicator, oil pressure, turn signals, low and high beam, seat or boot lid open warning and an Immobilizer LED.

The Engine
The PIAGGIO MP3 comes equipped with the Piaggio Quasar 250 i.e. engine. The Quasar 250 i.e. is the all-new Piaggio four-stroke, four-valve, liquid-cooled engine that meets Euro 3 standards, exceeding even the U.S. EPA and CARB standards. The new Quasar electronic injection series is the result of the Piaggio engine division’s commitment to creating a truly top quality, environment-friendly engine. The advanced closed loop injection with a Lambda sensor, together with a three-way catalytic converter and electronic ignition control system, considerably reduces emissions as well as fuel consumption and provides immediate throttle response. As a result, the PIAGGIO MP3 is fun to ride, quick off the mark in town traffic and comfortable with short motorway trips as well as extended touring.

The MP3 250 redefines the entire concept of ride stability. With three ground
contact points and a shock absorber on each wheel, the MP3 swallows bumps with incredible efficiency.
